philosophy

The Berliner International Music Competition has become a major symbol for international musicians. The purpose of the “3rd Berliner International Music Competition” is to discover artists of outstanding personality and provide awards that can launch international careers: recitals at Berlin Philharmonie, one of the most emblematic venues in the world; a CD recording with worldwide distribution (all costs covered), cash prizes, many special awards, and the service of international management offered to the winners.

Berlin is universally considered an iconic city for classical music, and Berlin Philharmonie is probably the most popular and prestigious classical concert hall, closely connected to the legendary Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra, as well as musical geniuses like Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado and Sir Simon Rattle.

Music students and young professionals of all nationalities, all ages and all musical disciplines (piano, strings, wind, voice and chamber music) are invited to apply.

Applicants will participate in one of the following age categories: Young Artist (less than 19 years old), Virtuoso (19 to 26 years old) and Professional (no age limit, minimum age: 27 years old). In each category, many Golden and Silver medals will be awarded.

At least 12 musicians will receive a First Grand Award, and will perform at the winners’ concert at Berlin Philharmonie (Kammermusiksaal). They will receive a cash prize, a recording from the concert, professional pictures and free invitations to the concert.

On the other hand, recording a CD is a "must" for a young musician in current times: the best credential to find engagements and get music reviews. The Orpheus Classical label will handle the process from beginning to end and will give 1.000 CDs to the winner, who will retain 100% of the recording rights.

In order to avoid travel expenses, the "3rd Berliner International Music Competition" has been designed so that musicians can show all their potential through video recordings (no travel required to apply)The aim of this competition is to find performers with a strong artistic personality and stage presence. The emphasis is therefore not on the purely technical aspect of the performance, but also on the artistic charisma of the performer.
