3rd Berliner International Music Competition

The “Berliner International Music Competition” has been designed to promote musicians of all ages and music disciplines, by offering them recitals at BERLIN PHILHARMONIE, Cash prizes, and a CD recording distributed worldwide.

PRIZES: CATEGORY A (BERLIN PHILHARMONIE)
​
The first category is appropriate for musicians aspiring to give a short recital at Berlin Philharmonie (Kamermusiksaal). The recitals will take place on 30 October 2019.
​
- WINNERS' RECITALS to take place at BERLIN PHILHARMONIE (Kamermusiksaal) on 30 October 2019:
​
The musicians who are awarded a First Grand Prize (at least 12 musicians) will offer a performance on 30 October 2019.
​
Performance time length:
​
YOUNG ARTIST: between 5 and 9 minutes
VIRTUOSO: between 9 and 12 minutes
PROFESSIONAL: between 12 and 16 minutes
CHAMBER MUSIC: between 12 and 16 minutes
​
- CASH PRIZES: each of the winners of the First Great Awards (at least 12) will receive a professional fee (Cash Prize) in addition to the recital at Berlin Philharmonie.
​
- VIDEO RECORDING: each of the winners will receive a video recording of their performance at Berlin Philharmonie, as well as professional pictures and free invitations.
​
- Marketing and publicity: a promotional campaign will promote the recitals at Berlin Philharmonie. International critics, music promoters and international managers will be invited.
​
​
PRIZES: CATEGORY B (CD RECORDING)
​
- A CD recording distributed worldwide by the label Orpheus Classical (award value: 25.000€):
​​
The prize includes the complete fees for recording the album in a professional studio, sound editing, mastering, fabrication and worldwide distribution (all costs covered). The label Orpheus may offer more than one award. 1000 physical CDs will be given to the artist, as well as the totality of the recording rights.
​
​​
- Worldwide distribution of the CD: allowing the artist to benefit from sales.
​
- Digital platforms: the CD will be also made available on all the platforms of digital distribution (Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, Rhapsody, Amazon, Yandex etc.)
​
- Album promotion: the release will be sent to the most relevant music media and magazines with a press note.
​
​
SPECIAL PRIZES (Categories A and B):
​
- Special awards: At least 50 Golden and Silver Medals, and High Distinctions offered to musicians who possess outstanding talent.
​
- Manhattan Concert Artists Award (international management): Offer to join the “Manhattan Concert Artists” roster for worldwide representation, as a free service with no exclusivity. www.manhattanconcertartists.com

ONLINE REGISTRATION:
​
Applicants are to register before the APPLICATION DEADLINE, by using the online form (APPLICATION in the main menu), and following these steps:
​
- All fields of the online form should be filled out.
​
- A brief biography (no more than 500 words) must be submitted, highlighting the artist's main achievements.
​
- Applicants must select the appropriate AGE GROUP (Young Artist, Virtuoso, Professional, Chamber Music). For Chamber Music ensembles, the application form must be filled by a unique member of the Chamber Music ensemble with his / her personal data. Additionally, he or she must specify on the form the name, age, instrument and email of the other members of the Chamber Music ensemble.

- Applicants must sent the LINKS of the videos chosen to participate (1, 2, 3 or more videos), and the REPERTOIRE for Berlin Philharmonie (first category) or the CD recording (second category). See guidelines below.
​
* Note: It is possible to apply for one category (first or second) or for both categories (first and second).

APPLICATION: VIDEO RECORDINGS​
​
- Applicants must send the links of the videos they wish to submit for consideration (via Youtube, Vimeo, Youku, etc.). They can send 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 individual links of the video recordings. The repertoire of the video recordings is totally FREE: applicants can choose the styles, pieces and composers that best describe their artistic personality in the best way.

TOTAL DURATION OF THE VIDEO RECORDINGS​
YOUNG ARTIST: 5 minutes or more​
VIRTUOSO: 9 minutes or more
​PROFESSIONAL: 12 minutes or more
​CHAMBER MUSIC: 12 minutes or more
The musical works of the video recordings (links attached to the application form) may be different to the repertoire proposed for the recital at Berlin Philharmonie and / or the CD recording, or may be the same repertoire. Solo recordings and concertos with orchestra or piano accompaniment are acceptable in the video recordings, as well as individual movements of sonatas and concertos. String performers, singers and wind performers can send repertoire for duo with piano.

REPERTOIRE: BERLIN PHILHARMONIE
(First category)
​
- Provide the REPERTOIRE to be performed at Berlin Philharmonie - Kammermusiksaal, according to the following length for each age group:
PERFORMANCE TIMES AT BERLIN PHILHARMONIE - KAMMERMUSIKSAAL
YOUNG ARTIST: between 5 and 9 minutes
VIRTUOSO: between 9 and 12 minutes
PROFESSIONAL: between 12 and 16 minutes
CHAMBER MUSIC: between 12 and 16 minutes
Applicants can propose 1, 2 or even 3 short pieces. Individual movements of large pieces are acceptable. The total playing time can vary around 2 minutes from the proposed timing for each category.

The repertoire of the video recordings is totally FREE: applicants can choose the styles, pieces and composers that best describe their artistic personality in the best way.
​
Pianists must choose pieces for piano solo. String players, singers and wind performers can choose pieces with piano accompaniment or solo repertoire. String players, wind performers and singers will NOT need to perform with their own piano accompanists. The Berliner International Competition will provide an accompanist for the Winner’s Concert at Berlin Philharmonie on 30 October 2019.

REPERTOIRE: CD RECORDING
(Second category)
- Provide the REPERTOIRE for the CD recording to be released with the prestigious label Orpheus Classiscal (www.orpheusclassical.com)
​
- The total duration of the CD release should last between 30 and 70 minutes.
- The repertoire of the video recordings is totally FREE: applicants can choose the styles, pieces and composers that best describe their artistic personality in the best way.
​
- Pianists must choose pieces for piano solo. String players, singers and wind performers can choose pieces with piano accompaniment or solo repertoire.
​
​
AWARDS PUBLICATION
​
- Winners will be published on the “Berliner International Music Competition” website:
(www.berlinercompetition.com) on 26 September 2019.
​
- The Winners' recitals at Berlin Philharmonie (First Category), for all groups (Young Artist, Virtuoso, Professional, Chamber Music) will take place on 30 October 2019.
​
- The recording of the CD album (Second Category), released by Orpheus classical, will have place between December 2019 and October 2020.
​
- International Jury: each single application will be evaluated through the video materials presented by each participant. A panel of international judges (soloists, agents, music professors), will evaluate the video material submitted, and the final selections of winners will be based solely on the video recordings submitted. Judges are independent and their votes are strictly confidential. A new panel of international judges is established each year.
​

CONDITIONS OF APPLICATION
​
- By submitting an application, the participant accepts the regulations, the general policies, the terms of use, and the privacy policy of the competition.
- Applications of minor musicians must be filled and submitted by their parents or legal guardian (tutor).
​
- Once an online application is sent, it may be resubmitted to change its content. Only the last version submitted will be considered by the jury.
​
- The international jury's decisions are final and not to be discussed. The jury's votes and opinions are strictly confidential, and will not be published. The jury members will not be able to provide feedback about the applicant's performance on the video recordings. ​
​
- The First Great Awards (recitals at Berlin Philharmonie - Karmermusiksaall) could we awarded or not in any of the age categories and disciplines. At least 12 musicians will perform at the Gala Concert.
